Character Name: Xehanort Series: Kingdom Hearts Age: 21 Physical Description: Tall and built enough so he doesn't conform to the "wimpy weak scientist" stereotype, Xehanort is slightly tannish and has light brown eyes and sharp features. He wears his hair a bit oddly, with most of it slicked back with two bangs hanging out in front of his face. He is either donning his customary white labcoat or when he's actually out and about in the city, the distinguished garb of the upper class. Personality: A member of the upper class and one of the promising new scientists working in the city of Azhun, Xehanort actually doesn't act quite as haughty as one would expect him to be. Soft spoken and mild, Xehanort is mild-mannered most of the time, especially during social gatherings (which he actually doesn't enjoy, despite his tendency to go out of his way to socialize. A fine example of reaction formation, he is), but when one gets him on the subject of his work, the mildness seems to dissipate into a fiery passion. Xehanort's love for science and his work is evident in the fact that he is often found in the lab, sometimes having to be coerced out so the building can close. However, unlike his other colleagues (especially the likes of Even), Xehanort's drive for science isn't based on any specific goal: A normally inquisitive mind, Xehanort wants to know for the sake of knowing, usefulness or relevance of his experiments be damned. In this way, he is somewhat self-centered, not really caring about what his work can do for others rather than what the work will reveal about the world around him. Strengths: Xehanort is surprisingly intelligent for a person his age, and his knowledge of several subjects can come in handy at times: He knows a little bit of everything and aims to know "all that there is to know". He is also strong-willed and doesn't take kindly to people walking all over him, and thus only doesn't complain when the person in question is higher up on the food chain then him. Even so, he'll find some way around it.
Battle-wise, Xehanort hasn't been formerly trained in any weapons and basically has to rely on instinct to defend himself. He is strong enough to do damage with just kicking or punching, although he'd much rather run like a sissy. It's called fight or flight for a reason! Weaknesses: Xehanort can actually be somewhat of an attention whore - he wants people to pay attention to his theories and discoveries, and when someone steals the spotlight from him, he can get petty and jealous rather easily. His judgement can become quite clouded by seemingly insignificant acts and he can hold grudges for quite some time (just ask Even). His determination to carry out experiments can get rather dangerous as well - he's not afraid of "obtaining" specimens or even experimenting on himself if need be. For being so seemingly mild mannered, he harbors a dark obsession within.
Battle-wise, although one can't just pick him up and walk away with him, it's not very hard to take down Xehanort. He's basically screwed if he fights someone remotely trained in anything. His forte is science, not violence, after all.
History: Xehanort's early childhood is one filled with mystery, because he simply does not remember what life was like before he was seven. Although Xehanort desperately wants to remember, he finds himself unable to even grasp a shred of his past. All he remembers is waking up on the doorstep of one of the wealthy aristocrats, near death and shivering from the cold of the night. Fortunately, the owner of the home was taking a walk at the time and spotted the dying boy on his estate, taking him in as a surprising act of kindness. In a way, Xehanort was fortunate, for most people would have kicked him aside to die.
The aristocrat who took him in had no children of his own, and thus had no idea how to nurse the child back to health, leaving this to the more able servants of his home. Although it took the better part of the month, gradually Xehanort was able to recover enough that he could coherently speak with his savior. The owner of the house found that the boy remembered nothing, and thus had nowhere to go. He was surprised, however, at the sudden curiosity of the boy and how quickly he picked up on certain subjects. Sensing that he had a gifted child on his hands, the aristocrat decided to allow the boy to stay in the house.
Nurtured in an environment filled with books, tutors, and money to afford everything, Xehanort truly could allow his talent shine, quickly absorbing all the information he could and learning more. He advanced quickly through his classes, breaking the curve of his classes and paying for it when the other children bulled him about it later. This only seemed to strengthen Xehanort's determination to be the best, and after skipping several hurdles in the educational system, he was speedily accepted to work as an intern in one of the Azhun's most advanced laboratories at the age of 18. It seemed that Xehanort's life was in full swing...
... and then he met Even.
Immediately, the two managed to irritate each other the second they met by Xehanort colliding with Even as the two rounded the corner, spilling freezing cold coffee (something Xehanort uses as evidence that Even is not human, as no human lets their coffee get that cold and enjoys it) all over the place, only to find out that he was to be this man's understudy fifteen minutes later. Needless to say, neither men were pleased.
In the entire one year that they were forced to work together, Xehanort found life at the lab a living hell, desperate to get out every night and dreading to go back in the next morning. If it weren't for the fact that Even was negligent and often didn't keep an eye on his ambitious understudy, Xehanort would have resigned then and there. Fortunately, while Even was occupied, Xehanort happily performed his own (unauthorized) experiments, saving the results for when he was promoted to a scientist himself.
However, because of Even's unwillingness to allow Xehanort to assist in his experimentations, Xehanort realized that in order to claw his way up to top, academic integrity had to be discarded. Taking one of Even's many discarded hypothesis, he quickly constructed an experiment around it and managed to get the thing to work, publishing the report under his name and Even's. Using a bit of practiced forgery and covering his tracks, Xehanort managed to present a completed paper about the "Memory storage in the Exons of Deoxyribonucleic acid in Mammals", under the guise that he did the project with Even's supervision. Even never had a chance to deny his involvement in the project, nor point out how Xehanort stole (and improved) his initial procedures and hypothesis, when the boy cleverly planted evidence to cover his tracks. When all was said and done, Xehanort was promoted and at the very least, the two men were rid of each other.
Now, three years later, Xehanort enjoys his job, nearly limitness with restrictions, though Even still hasn't forgiven him for his stunt to get promoted (not like he cared; the two hardly interacted anymore and actually went out of their way to avoid each other). Lately, however, Xehanort had stumbled upon an interesting new subject: Light and Darkness, and the Human Heart.
Desperate to unlock the secrets that this potential new field of science has to offer, Xehanort is failing to notice the darkness in his own heart, subtly influencing his research to take darker and darker turns...
